I love producing paintings that are immediately recognizable, exhibiting dynamic compositions, unusual subjects and vibrant colours. Acrylic is a great medium for rapid and intuitive brushwork that retains a certain freshness and spontaneity. As a trained geologist and a Scottish immigrant, I get much of my inspiration from the close observation of local landscapes and built form from an outsider’s perspective. Commonly, this translates into work illustrating those quirky aspects of American life that generally pass unnoticed.
