Steffanie Lorig spent her childhood drawing, doodling, and painting on any surface available. She earned her Visual Communications degree and began her career as a graphic designer and illustrator. During that time, she founded a social enterprise that harnessed the healing power of creativity to help kids facing adversity. After serving as the organization’s CEO for 21 years, she returned to her roots as both a designer and an artist.

Her work can be seen on a 4-story building in Bethesda, at a winery in Napa Valley, and in homes across the U.S. In addition to being a prolific painter, she is the author of eleven books.

”When painting, I am led by intuition rather than by a predefined plan. This allows curiosity—rather than judgment—to lead the way, freeing me from perfectionistic tendencies. I often add bits of collage – a discarded shopping list, a torn piece of fabric, my son’s old homework – to the painting, creating a layered celebration of random synchronicities.”

”This multi-layered approach also becomes as much about concealing as revealing, allowing me to set figures, objects, and ideas that were once hidden, free, and watch the piece before me, become a visual poem, a folk tale, or an observable daydream.”
